Wedding Planning Checklist

Using a wedding planning checklist will keep you organized and make planning your wedding so much easier! There is a wedding checklist for everything – from planning your budget to changing your name and everything in between.

For your convenience, I have put together every checklist you can think of along with worksheets and lots of other important information. You can find all of these in My Christian Wedding Planner.

7 Ways to Get Organized

1. Get Help

Unless you are having a very small wedding, you will need help with planning and coordinating your event. This may be from professionals, respected publications, or trusted friends who've planned their own weddings.

• Consider hiring a wedding planner or consultant if you are a busy person, or if you just prefer not to do it yourself. A professional can plan and organize your special day, and often save you money.

• Purchase a three ring binder, and build your planner with “My Christian Wedding Planner”. Use the wedding planning checklists - they're free, and especially helpful if you're planning with your mother or fiancé who live out of town. One of the most important of these lists is the 12 month wedding planner checklist which will help you stay on top the important tasks.

• Read through this website and choose any of the do-it-yourself projects you want to do and plan them ahead of time. Remember to use the wedding planning checklist to help yourself stay organized!

2. Announce Your Engagement

• Announcing your engagement in print publications

• Mailing announcements to your family and friends

• Creating a wedding website

3. Set Your Wedding Date

Setting your wedding date is one of the most important decisions you will make as you plan your wedding. It is actually quite difficult to make any progress on planning your wedding without knowing the date.

4. Set the Tone for Your Wedding

You probably already know that you want to have a Christian wedding since you are on this website, but you still need to decide if you're having a formal, casual, or a theme wedding. Talk with your partner and write down both of your ideas of what you want your wedding to be like.

5. Set Your Budget

Start off by using the printable wedding budget worksheet in “My Christian Wedding Planner”. First, you need to know who is paying for your wedding. Are your parents paying for some or all of it? If you and your fiancé are paying, look at your finances and figure out how much you already have, and how much you can save each month. I strongly advise couples to avoid debt as much as possible. Since married couples fight about money more than anything else, why start your marriage with a wedding debt?

6. Choose Your Attendants

Choose your attendants and get them involved. While some couples choose not to have any attendants, especially if they're having a casual wedding, most choose between 2 and 12 bridal attendants. It’s usually decided by the bride as she wants to include her friends and sisters in her wedding. Look over the wedding checklist of responsibilities for bridesmaids and groomsmen before you make your final choices.

7. Look for Ceremony and Reception Venues

Many venues are booked a year in advance, so the further in advance you start looking, the more likely you are to get the time, date, and cost that you've planned for.

Now that you’re organized, you’re off to a good start in planning your wedding! Now it’s time for the fun stuff – choosing dresses, tuxes, flowers, music, favors and more! And just so you know, there is a wedding planning checklist in My Christian Wedding Planner for all of these and more.
