Cheap Wedding Decorations

You can find a wide variety of cheap wedding decorations that are both tasteful and attractive. Cheap in quality or taste is not the same as inexpensive in price. Here are several ideas to get you started with tasteful and inexpensive wedding décor.

Location: Choose a wedding location with natural beauty to cut down on the amount of decorations you would otherwise have to buy. A park or a garden with Dogwood trees and Azaleas blooming in the spring would provide a great setting. The American Rose Society has a 118 acre rose garden in my area, and it is used for weddings quite often. Check with the Chamber of Commerce for a botanical garden near you.

Flowers: Buy flowers from local growers if there are any in your area. You will save on shipping charges and may get a better price on the flowers. For a casual wedding consider using pots of flowers that are available in garden centers such as tulips in the spring or mums in the fall. You could use native wildflowers in small tin pails or cans for a summer wedding and fill the wedding aisle and reception tables with flower petals.

Lighting: Play with the lighting to get really cheap wedding decorations. Put colored bulbs in light fixtures to match your wedding colors for a fast and easy way to add ambiance to your reception. Wrap posts and pillars with white twinkle lights and add simple party lights to the dance floor for instant decoration.

Fabric: Lengths of fabric add customization and color to your wedding decorations. Add swags of fabric behind the head table for a soft, luxurious backdrop. Inexpensive fabric can also be used to create a tent ceiling to cover plain architecture, or to create a colorful walkway down the aisle or at the reception entrance.

Candles: Use candle centerpieces surrounded by tea lights or votive candles on mirror bases for romantic lighting. Give votive candles with personalized labels for wedding favors.

Favors: Coordinate your wedding favors with your reception décor and let them serve as cheap table decorations before they go home with your guests.

Linens: Colored linens are dramatic and cheap. Aesthetically layer colored linens on tables for unique accents instead of using plain white linens. On a buffet or dessert table, drape smaller linens or fabrics over risers (books or boxes) in some areas to give different height to some of your dishes. Use linens made of different fabrics to add depth and texture to your tables.

Cake: Make your wedding cake (and the groom’s cake) a focal point of your reception by setting up a cake table in a prominent location and add simple decorations to the table.

Food: Let the food be part of the decorations at your reception by using colorful fruit centerpieces or baskets of cookies or breads on each table. Small bowls of candy or mints are also great decorations.

Photos: Fill a blank wall at your reception by having a slide-show of childhood photos of you and the groom that will quietly run throughout the reception. Add in some romantic clip-art, wedding phrases and other fun images. Randomly sit framed photos of you and the groom throughout the reception area.

Recycle: Reuse decorations whenever possible, such as moving flower arrangements from the ceremony altar to the reception entrance and using bridesmaid bouquets as table decorations. If you and a friend are both planning weddings in the same year, you may be able to share some decoration items and split the cost.

Rent: Check with decoration rental companies where you can find elegant items for a fraction of the purchase costs. Also ask if your wedding venue locations have decorations available. Many halls and churches have a variety of decorations in storage that you may be able to use for free or a small fee.

You might find items that you can use for cheap wedding decorations at discount stores and dollar stores. Check craft shops, online merchants, and other retailers for sales, especially after holidays or after the peak summer bridal season. You can also contact wedding boutiques and reception venues to ask about used items they may have for sale at a cheap price.
