Semi-Formal Wedding Attire
Semi-Formal wedding attire means that tuxes and long dresses are not required of the guests.
Bride’s attire For a semiformal wedding, the bride usually wears a long white or ivory gown with an optional veil. Groom’s attire The groom usually wears a tuxedo or sack coat. White tie is usually reserved for the most formal weddings. Bridesmaids’ attire The bridesmaids’ can wear dresses of any length. There is usually a maid or matron of honor, 2-6 bridesmaids, a flower girl and a ring bearer. Groomsmen attire The groom’s attendants usually wear a tuxedo or sack coat. There is usually a best man and one usher for every 50 guests or the same number of groom’s attendants for the amount of bridesmaids. Female Guests • Don't wear white because it competes with the bride. There are plenty of other colors available. • Don't wear black or sequins during the daytime. • Don't worry about wearing the same colors as the bridesmaids or mothers. • Wear something feminine and appropriate, out of respect for your hosts. Overly sexy clothing doesn't belong at a wedding. • Use good judgment if the invitation doesn't specify the formality of the event. A pastel suit or soft floral dress for daytime or a little black dress for evening (after 6 p.m.) will always be acceptable.
Male Guests • Wear a dark suit with a tie if the wedding is after 6 PM. • Never wear a tuxedo during the day time, regardless of the formality of the event. • Use good judgment if the invitation doesn't specify the formality of the event. A dark suit and conservative tie will always be acceptable.
