Writing Wedding Announcements
It is exciting to share your wedding announcements before and after the ceremony has taken place. For 'before and after' newspaper announcement instructions, see the worksheets in My Christian Wedding Planner. One way to let people know of your upcoming wedding is by placing your announcement, preferably with a photo, in your local newspaper. In addition to your current local newspaper, consider posting the wedding information in hometown newspapers, small weekly newspapers, where you and your fiancé’s relatives live and in previous towns where either of you have lived. The announcement of an impending wedding in the newspaper shares information about both of you with the readers. It should list both sets of parents, grandparents if you like, hometowns and educational experiences, including high school and college degrees. You can also include employment information and, if known, the potential wedding ceremony date and city where it will take place.
Another great way to announce your impending wedding is by sending wedding announcements in the form of “Save the Date” cards. You can be creative by using photos and magnets that will provide an even longer lasting impression. You may prefer a Save the Date card that matches your invitations, or you could try a fun design that will make your wedding date a day to anticipate! Our lives are so busy these days that it’s important to make your announcement as soon as possible. Save the Date cards are especially helpful if you are planning a destination wedding or your wedding plans include a holiday. Regardless of your wedding location, your guests will appreciate the advance notice. Save the Date Etiquette Save the Date cards can be mailed up to one year, or more, in advance of your wedding and should mention that an invitation will follow. Be sure that your guest list does not need thinning, as every guest who receives a Save the Date card should receive an invitation and vice versa. Keep the wording simple. All you really need are your names, wedding date and the location. After the Wedding Announcements After the wedding, post your wedding announcement in newspapers letting friends and family know the details of the ceremony and your future plans. In addition to a brief background on both of you, including your parents’ names, be sure to detail all the members of the wedding party, their relationship to you and their hometowns. Include the date of your wedding and the locations where the ceremony and reception were held. Whether planned or completed, include a sentence about your honeymoon and where you plan to live. You can also send wedding announcements to people who were either unable to attend the wedding, or were not on the guest list. You can print or order these to match your wedding invitations. They usually follow one of two formats: Announced by the parents, usually the bride's parents, or announced by the couple. See examples of wording for these announcements below or go to Verse It.com.
