Christian Wedding Vows

Christian Wedding Vows are solemn promises made by a man and a woman in front of God, their family and friends. A vow before God is the most sacred vow that a person can make. It demonstrates the seriousness of the bride and groom in their commitment to each other, and it’s not to be taken lightly. It is a declaration of their eternal love for each other, and pledges that no matter what, they will stand together to face the trials that life will bring – “To have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness or in health, to love and to cherish ’till death do us part. And hereto I pledge you my faithfulness.”

This is the basic sacred vow, expressing the entrance into a covenant relationship with God and your spouse. There is nothing wrong with this basic vow, but maybe you want your wedding vows to be a little more special, something unique to share with the most important person in your life!

Your wedding vows set the foundation for your marriage!

Choose your wedding vows wisely. Enter into this covenant prayerfully. Covenant is relationship! “Relationship” in its very definition carries the fact that there is mutual caring and moral obligations between each party, and the fulfilling of needs within each other. A marriage partner commits to never intentionally bring harm in any way to the relationship; but rather, build it up. The Biblical view of marriage is a lifelong commitment, ending only through death, or violation of the covenant.

What could be more appropriate for a Christian wedding than Christian wedding vows? Shouldn’t these words be meaningful to both you and your spouse? After all, when all is said and done, aren’t the vows the most important part of a wedding? Without the vows spoken to each other in love and commitment, there would be no union of a man and a woman becoming one in Christ. There would be no marriage; it would just be a big party.

Do you want your wedding vows to be special?

Maybe you’re reading this because you are soon to be married. The vows that you pledge on that special day are some of the most important words that you will ever speak. Planning what you will say to your fiancé should take at least as much consideration as, say, choosing the gown you plan to wear. Think about it for a moment…you can have a wedding without a lot of things, such as, decorations, flowers and food. But you cannot have a wedding without wedding vows.

I hope you are thinking, “Wow, you’re right, I never thought of it that way.” When you are young and in love and planning one of the biggest days of your life, some things can slip passed you, unnoticed. I sincerely hope that thinking about and planning your wedding vows isn’t one of them. It’s so easy to leave it to the minister; after all, he is the specialist in this area. Yes, but does he know everything you want to say to your beloved?
